Notes on Notes on a Scandal
In The News, Secondary Education Thursday, February 8th, 2007We are fairly unimpressed by the message carried by this film and see this as another teacher-bashing exercise. We couldn’t remember any positive portrayal of anything connected to education: kids were unruly, teachers apathetic and/or depraved. The head fared no better and wouldn’t have been out of place in The Office. More seriously, any discussion surrounding the conditions which create inner-city academic underachievement was brushed aside to make way for cheap and rather suspect titilation.
Don’t you think it is time that teachers were portrayed accurately? That is, as overworked, underpaid, dedicated but maltreated and blamed for EVERY social ill under the sun – surprised the recent snowfall in the UK wasn’t attributed to us!
