A TUC report makes interesting reading not least because the main news channels and the press in the UK neglected to mention its real significance.
According to their analysis of the Labour Force Survey, teachers work more unpaid overtime hours than any other profession, and that includes hot-shot lawyers and City types. While teachers worked, on average, 11.2 hours of unpaid overtime A WEEK, civil serpents managed to slither away with only 5.5. This amounted to an extra £12,000 in unclaimed wages per year. It then comes as no surprise that according to the Daily Telegraph’s review of the OECD’s latest statistics, Britain is experiencing the biggest brain drain from the UK in 50 years, with teachers and health professionals top of those jumping ship.
